Chemical analyses

SINTEF Norlab conducts a wide range of chemical analyses related to environmental investigations and quality control of raw materials and products. From well-equipped, modern laboratories we deliver inorganic and organic specialist analyses for industrial customers and research organizations.

SINTEF Norlab delivers customised outsourced laboratory solutions for a number of industrial companies.

Contaminated sites

The Norwegian Pollution Regulations specifies threshold limits for contamination of soil. Analyses are required if contamination is suspected and apply regardless of the size of the area of interest.

We assist with all analyses and assessments of contaminated land/soil  and landfill.

Analyses

SINTEF Norlab offer the following analyses:

  • heavy metals
  • BTEX
  • PCB
  • aliphates
  • total hydrocarbons (THC)/mineral oil
  • PAH
  • total organic carbon (TOC)
  • identification of acid-forming rocks (e.g., black shale (alum shale) or acidic gneiss)

We  provide customised analyses for source tracking, assessment of  degree of degradation in oil pollution, and other contamination-related issues.

Examples

Situations  where soil/contaminated land needs to be analyses:

  • construction  sites
  • property takeover (often combined with an environmental survey to investigate the building facilities itself for any contamination)
  • assessment of fate/transport of contamination
  • acute spills/contamination
  • source tracking (e.g. leakage from heating oil tanks)
  • site clean-up
  • survey reports for industrial areas (M-630)

Why choose SINTEF Norlab

SINTEF Norlab has extensive experience surveying contaminated land. We can  assess whether there is “reason to believe” that an area is contaminated, and we can  guide in sampling,  selection of analyses and assessment of results.

By agreement, we  compare the detected concentrations against values and health-based threshold values (TA2553). We can  include information from sampling (maps, images etc.),  to provide a more comprehensive report  which can be submitted to the authorities.

Experienced engineers and modern equipment guarantee the best quality and rapid response. We are accredited in accordance with ISO 17025.
